Cutting up some clothes

I have been cutting up some clothes to put into a quilt.  I can't share much about everything just yet.

It's taken a lot of interfacing, and there has been a lot of interesting fabrics!!  I think the most interesting is the ski jacket (the red & black).  I have also cut up some boxers, suit jackets, pants, jeans and khakis!  It sure will be an interesting quilt, but I needed to cut up the clothes before I got much further!

Weekend sewing

I feel SO productive!!  This weekend I finished a quilt (finished the top, the quilting and I put the binding on). Although I realized later I forgot to put a label on it. I plan on adding one this week. I cannot wait to share this quilt! But it's a gift, so nothing yet :(

I also made 16 bowtie blocks (love them as a leader/ender!)

I think I might start sewing them into twosies & foursies soon.

I also spent some time on Celtic solstice.

I like this picture better than the cropped one

I feel like you can see the pattern more when you step away. I'm not done with all the pieces, but I really wanted to start putting some blocks together. I'm in love!

We also stopped at Jo-Ann's (we only needed 1 thing) but saw calicoes were 50% off.

I bought these for a fall table runner.

And a valentines day one (I know I'm late for this year ;) )

All in all it was a great week end (and not just because of the sewing!!!)

I am linking up with FNSI since I did quite a bit on Friday night :)

Heart block

I love this quilt block.  I was recently browsing and found this lovely quilt block.  It was not posted with a pattern because it was on a quilt block a day (for a year) calendar (what?! why haven't I gotten this?!)  So I had some math to do on my own.  I decided to use HST for the bottom, so that was fun to figure out the math!

Green & brown quilt laid out

Generally when I am making a quilt I try to make as many of the blocks as possible before I lay them out, but I was SO excited about this, that I just had to lay it out to see how it's looking.

And I am just in love with it!!!  You can see in the bottom right corner I didn't have quite enough blocks yet.  I had thought about adding a border, but right now it's just about the same size as my backing I have planned for it.

Design wall

One of the things I was so excited about Saturday was their HUGE design wall! I wish I had room in my house for one!! Course I loved that I could see it straight from where I was sitting, so I could put something up and just look at it!

I am linking up with design wall Monday.

I started these in the spring. I loved doing scrappy but in color.  I wasn't exactly sure how I wanted to may it out, I had thought about a design like this, but wasn't sure how it would work, and now that I see it laid out I LOVE IT!! And I cannot wait to get it finished! As you can see I have a few more blocks to finish up, but this lets me see them laid out to know how many more I need :)

Heart block

Here is another heart block.  I actually found this one online of someone that had done a block swap.  I like how simple it is.  I plan on making a blue one also.  I just haven't had much time to sew with school starting up!

Bow ties!

I was going through my blog and I noticed I haven't updated about my bow ties in a while.  I am constantly working on them, as my leaders and enders.  I actually quite enjoy it, because I cut up little squares of fabric I have recently worked on.

Here are some of them laid out.  It's hard to show you an update because I am still just making the mini bow tie blocks.  But I have quite a few of them so far.  The last time I did an ironing session for them I put them in groups of 10.

And I currently have approximately 130!!! Although I think Bonnie Hunter mentioned on her post she had about 700 bow ties, granted I don't know how big her quilt is, but I have a ways to go!

Scraptacular!!!

So this was what I decided to do with my left overs from the Jacobs ladder quilt.  I have also been cutting quite a bit more.  I think the only "issue" I am having is that I now have a box full of 4 7/8" squares.  So I have started cutting them 5" so that I can use them in other projects.

I love how this quilt looks so far!! Most of the time when I lay out my scrappy quilts I don't fall in love with them as much, but bam! I sure do love this one!

Pieces of a quilt -

I was browsing Fons & Porter magazine September/October 2012 and I found a quilt that I quite liked, called Rootbeer & Bubblegum.  (here is a link). I loved the pattern, even though I just made a triple irish chain (here).  But this one is a little different, it has a design in the middle.  I was not too fond of the pink & brown.  But I thought brown & green would look nice.

Now pieces of this quilt have already been shown!  I showed how to make the three color hourglass blocks here.

I know I used differently measurements for the block, so I had a lot of math to do!  I chose to use 2.5" blocks so that I didn't have to cut AS many, and I could put them with my 2.5" square bin when I was done.  I didn't strip piece this, because I was going for scrappy.

I have a few pieces done now, and cannot wait to get a top done!

Heart blocks

I think this might be my favorite of the heart blocks so far! And it is not even a heart :)  I found this block here.  I decided to do it a little different, I added a sashing between all the blocks, and I think I will be adding a sashing to the outside.  I might do it a little wonky (like the right wider than the left) but nothing is set in stone yet.)

I am linking up to freshly pieced WIP Wednesday.

Heart blocks

These are both "log cabin" hearts.  I love the scrappy feel to them!

I found both of these blocks on sewhooked.com If you have never seen her site, she has a lot of GREAT paper pieced designs.

And this has nothing to do with the quilting world, but I just wanted to give a shout out to my mom on her birthday today!! Love you!

Heart blocks

I am not sure where I found this block. It is a paper pieced block, but I used some strings I had had for the inside.  I LOVE the black background, but I think it's a little busy, so I think it shall be saved for sashing :)

Heart block

I had said I hadn't gotten much time in my sewing room, but then all of a sudden I was able to get into my room a few times and get stuff done!

I found the block here, I love how this one looks! and the blue and the orange works so well together!

Heart blocks

I love how these turned out!! Now comes the time for the hard blocks! (I just used 2.5" blocks for these ;) )

Heart blocks

I decided to use all of my 2.5" blocks to make two heart blocks.  I love how they turned out!

I think I really like how the orange turned out!

Heart Blocks

Here is my next heart block, I actually found this here.  I decided to add orange, I think blue & orange are a good color combo.

Here are my two blocks together so far :)

Heart blocks

When I go through my stash I have found I have a lot of blues.  So I have decided I am going to use them to make some heart blocks.  And since I don't have a lot of white, I am going use black as the background.

This block was foundation pieced, I just made some strips as I worked on other string projects.  Then I sewed some sqaures on to the top and bottom.  I used the left overs to make some HSTs, I was enough to get a little pinwheel out of the top (I didn't take a picture of it).

Friday night Sew in

I am HOME and able to sew on a Friday night!!  So I can participate in :

Handmade by Heidi

I am so excited! Tonight I am working on:

My black & white log cabin (these are getting big!) I added one more round, which means they finish at 14" now!! They're so much bigger!!

And my wonky log cabin.  I have 2 purples, 2 greens, 2 blues, 1 black (but I have a lot of strings from my black & white log cabin, so I have about three more of those started!)

And my string quilt.  That works well with the wonky log cabin, because they both use my strings.  Now if only Minnie would let me get to my strings!

While I am sewing I have been watching X-files.  This has been my first foray into this show! I enjoy it!

And I JUST found out this, but there is something call Feline Friday, and since Minnie LOVES to help me sew, I am linking up to it! The first feline Friday I found is at Sarah Did it and the other is at Jody's Book review

fun blocks - two

While I was working on other things I used these as leaders and enders and was able to finish them up easily.

Greek cross.  Although it kind of looks like the red cross cross now ;) I should have made the outside triangles blue, but oh well, I kind of like the two colors.

I wanted something easy to do, so a Jacobs ladder block.  I really like how this one looks in two colors!

Log cabin

My log cabins sure are coming along!  They are getting bigger.  I am trying to decide how big to make them.  How big I make them will decide on how big the quilt ends up being!  I think I am going to add one more round of white and black.  I also thought I had counted off enough to make the right number of squares, but I guess not!  So I have about three more to make!

I was worried about the shades of white I chose, but I think the only ones that don't work as well are the ones that had green on them.  oh well.  I didn't use it for much!
