Spool blocks

I thought it was time to do an update of my spools blocks.  Last time I updated about them was in August. In August I had 295, and I currently have 330.

I haven't been working on these as much, I have been using other quilts as my leaders and enders.  I still think I want to do this by colors, but I am not exactly sure how I will end up doing them.

I could do red, orange, yellow, green, blue, but then where do I put purple, and the whites, and the blacks? I still have time to decide though!

Spool blocks

I haven't taken a picture of my spool blocks in a while.

I currently have 295 blocks! I don't have enough room on my design wall once I make some more ;)

Spools

Wowowowow!  These are my spools currently.

I am using these as leader & enders.  I put them on up on the design wall by color before, but seeing them like this just blows me away.  I love how it looks!

It will be real interesting sewing this together!  Since it will be on point (I like how it looks better on point than just up and down.)

But it's not something I will have to worry about for a while! I have slowed down a little bit on using these as my leader and enders, because I need to cut more of the grey background fabric.

Spools Quilt

This is not all the blocks just some of my recent ones.  You can kind of see what I have been working on! a lot of pinks!!

This puts me at about 200 blocks!!

Spools

I wanted to see how my spool blocks were coming, so I put them up on my design wall.  I chose to put them up by color, and I think when I am finished, I might end up doing it like that too (not necessarily this order but by color).

I have 163 little spool blocks done.  Quite a ways to go! But it's a marathon not a sprint ;)

Spools

There are 11 x 13, so 143 blocks. It's getting bigger.  I did the math for my bow ties quilt (which are the same size) I had almost 700 blocks.  So definitely a ways to go!

Leaders and enders

Wow! I have 84 of these little blocks!! I love how quickly the come together, and it's so handy when I am working on other things to just have them there and ready.

I pulled out my bow ties quilt to show it to someone, and guess who came and laid down on it!!! I guess he's a quilting kitty ;)

Leader ended 2018

Since I finished my bow tie quilt (well the top, but I do have quilting ideas).  I needed a new leader ender.  And I decided to do those spool blocks.  Of course some people think these look like bowties too!  But I am calling them spools! And right now I have 45.

A leader ender is a project you work on while working on something else, so there is always something under your needle.  It's amazing how fast they come together even if it's not being working on as a main item.  My bowtie quilt was started in 2012 and finished in 2017.  So 5 years.  Hopefully this one will go a little faster ;)

I got the pattern from Bonnie Hunter, the link is here.  She also explains leaders and enders there.
